We’ve done quite a bit of traveling with the triplets. One huge lifesaver has been to pack everything in labeled ziploc bags. I pack 2 girl outfits and 1 boy outfit in one ziploc, and then I can easily see how many days of outfits I’ve packed. Similarly, I pack 2 girl pajamas and 1 boy pajama in one ziploc to account for nighttime clothes. The picture below shows an example of our duffel bag for a weekend visit to see grandparents. At the time, the triplets were still spitting up a bit and we went through lots of burp cloths. We had bags called “burp” that only held burp cloths. This system made it easy to account for everything we needed and to find what we were looking for.
In fact, packing with ziplocs proved so effective, on our recent trip to the beach, my 8-year-old asked for ziplocs to help her pack. I ran out of ziplocs after finishing her bag, so I didn’t pack my 6-year-old’s stuff in bags. It proved almost impossible to keep track of what he had left. We ended up re-packing his clothes halfway through the beach trip (after a run to the grocery store for more bags!)
Have you ever packed outfits in ziploc bags? How did it turn out for you? If you are hesitant because of the sheer amount of bags you may use, keep in mind that you can reuse the bags every time you travel. We are still using the same bags a year later, so they were well worth the effort and expense.
